047 "...from macro to microarchitecture, small but notable..."

I'm in the mood to write something regarding my thesis, just to give a rough idea what my research is all about.

First thing to know before we go further:

What is Micro-architecture (McAr)?
Micro-architecture is a small or mini buildings found along the roads and in urban areas such as corner shops, recreational parks, public squares, specific facilities including overhead bridges,lamp post,car parks, kiosks, pedestrian walkways and others(Azimin Tazilan, 2008). Below are the examples of micro-architecture:

As you can see the image above. There are 2 types of McAr; retail and facilities. My research is focused on Retail McAr.

Why I'm doing this research?
There are few issues:
1) illegal trade- most of street vendor has no license. what is the consequences?
2) abolishment of street vendor- transferring the street vendor to a centralized hub is a failure. why its happened?
3) culture of the streets need to be conserve- identity of the town.

New Pekan Rabu at Kuah, Langkawi is a failure because there is no customer and nonstrategic location
Using Azimin S.M. Tazilan (2008), sustainable design elements for urban street micro-architecture in Malaysia, I conducted a study on conservation of street cultural through micro-architecture in Malaysia.

It has thus been established that street retail micro architecture is an important and integral part of Malaysia's city landscapes; its abolishment would lead to a decline on the city's part, as can be seen in the case of Putrajaya where there are no longer any street vendors selling banana fritters nor Nasi Lemak.

The activities of these street vendors represent the bustling life within the city; its disappearance would lead to a gloomy and despondent setting. Research done has managed to show that the street retail micro architecture need only be improved instead of eradicated. A more meticulous and universal set of planning guidelines, rules and regulations should also be drafted for these street vendors such that it may cater to the needs of the local culture without eroding it.

What its contribution towards nation and people?
The planning proposal may help the stakeholders including local authorities, town planners, architects, designers, users and local inhabitants in developing a great street towards the sustainability of the city.

That is the overall idea of my research. What do you think? If you have anything to say or opinion regarding this matters, just speak your mind, you are welcome to do so. I still have a lot to learn.

tonight will be a sleepless night again.
I need to take five, after 3 and a half hours non-stop writing for my Colloquium paper.
so, here is an entry that I made during last Ramadhan.
I've been keeping this for so long. Now, I'm going to publish it.

It's about an article that I've read somewhere and I would like to share it.
Besides, its also a reminder to me as well. I hope this will encourage you in what ever you do.

Thus If you are wealthy, then ponder on the humbleness and generosity of that Great Prophet who reigned sovereign over entire Arabia and won over the hearts of every Arab notable through love...

If you are among the week, then take reference from the Prophet's life in Mecca under the rule of the horribly oppressive idolaters...

If you are a triumphant, reflect on the Prophet of courage and submission who routed the enemy at the battles of Badr and Hunayn...

But, Allah forbid, should you become defeated, then remember the Prophet walking patiently and courageously amid his wounded and martyred Companions at the field of Uhud, having comlpletely yielded to Divine Will...

And if you are a teacher, just think of the delicate, sensitive, and affectionate Prophet conveying the pearls of his heart to the Students of Suffa by the Masjidun-Nabawi...

If you are a student, picture the Prophet sitting before Jibril A.S at the moment of Revelation, cautious and motivated, filled with respect.

If you are a preacher, a counselor calling to the good, then give ear to the pleasant voice of the Prophet flashing sparks of wisdom from his heart to his Companions at the Masjid...

If you are left without an aid in your want to protect and communicate the Truth and elevate it, then take a look at the life of the Prophet who proclaimed the Truth to the ignorant and called them onto guidance at a time when he was deprived of all aid in Mecca...

If you have broken the resistence of the enemy, leaving them incapacitated and devastated evil to proclaim the Truth, of the Conquest, humbly and thankfully entering the sacred turf of Mecca, on camel back as if to fall prostrate, despite being a victorious commander...

If you own a farm and want to put things on track, then draw a lesson from the Prophet of competence who appointed the most able to revive and administer, in the best possible way the lands of Banu Nadir, Khaybar, Fadak after seizing possession of them...

If you are lonely, the reflect on the son of Abdullah and Aminah, their dearly loved orphan of innocence...

If you are a teenager, closely consider the life of the youth, the future Prophet, shepherding the stock of Abu Talib at Mecca...

If you are a trader set out with caravan loads of goods, ponder the integrity if the grandest man of the convoys destined for Yamen and Damascus...

If you are a judge, recall his just and prudential move in intervening to replace the Black Stone at the verge of Meccan notable going at each others' throats...

Then turn your glance once more to history and take a look at the Prophet in Medina at the Masjid'un-Nabawi delivering his verdict with the greatest conceivable justice between the poverty stricken destitute and well to do rich, as just as one can imagine.

If you are a spouse consider the deep emotions and compassion of the Blessed Husband of Khadijah and Aisha...

If you have children then learn the affectionate conduct of the father of Fatimah, the grandfather of Hasan and Husayn...

Whoever you may be and in whichever circumstances you may find yourself in, you will find Muhammad S.A.W as the most perfect master and most beautiful guide at all times and places.

Today, I feel like updating from my last vacation, Toronto, Canada. Let's go to Niagara Falls. YAY!!

The most magnificent view is from the Canada side because you can see both falls. From US side you can't see the nice view of both falls. Therefore, they built the viewing tower.

Now, Lets ride the maid of the mist, where you diving thru the falls. sounds scarry, huh? Just kidding, not diving just ride on the boat and it brings you to the falls. It is breathtaking. You can feel the water splashing, the nearer you go, the wet you'll get. of course they provide a raincoat(or fallscoat?)

Canada's Wonderland

Event: Muslim Festival

Today, we went to Canada's wonderland. There is a muslim day festival and live performance from Mesut Kurtis, Shaykh Al-Ninowy and Junaid Jamsheed at the Kingswood Theatre in Canada's Wonderland. Here is the journey to the Canada's Wonderland. :D

From our place we took st.patrick's subway to yorkdale. then from yorkdale we took a GO bus, straight to Canada's wonderland.

We can bring food from home, and eat outside the Wonderland not inside because they don't allow outside food. That's why people were picnic outside the wonderland. Everything in the wonderland is expensive. Thus, eat well before you go in.

The Canada's Wonderland. Here are some of the games they have. There is more, I just don't have time to walk all over the wonderland because it's too big. I arrived there at 1700, because the live performance start at 1830, it's late already. It doesn't matter to me cause I don't fancy this kind of game.LOL.

I don't play the extreme game as shown in the picture above. I just don't like it, and never will ride one. My type of game is like these game, the betting game or the monkey bear game. It's game that you play and win. Then, you will get something in return. That's totally me.hahaha.

It's a long story to tell what we've been doing one whole day. so to make it short, let's telling it by pictures. We use subway to Union station, the nearest station to Canada National Tower(CN tower).

As we arrived at the CN tower, I thought it's free, but it's not.hahaha. so we skip the CN Tower.
We went to the tourist information kiosk to ask about the harbor tour. Later, we get a ticket for the harbor tour and the city tour. For Niagara Falls we plan to drive, so we will use rental car.

Then, we stop at Toronto Island for a quick tour, to see what they have at the Island. On the Island, there is mini theme park called centreville and mostly for kids.

Jet lag and the walk

Because of jet lag, we(my father, mother, sis and dad) didn't go out so much. We are tend to sleep rather than walk.hahaha. The jet lag take us 2 days to recover. The two days, we just go to the Chinatown to buy some groceries, that are just 10 minutes walk from our place. Along the way to the chinatown, there are lots of thing to discover. So, Let's enjoy the picture.

You also can find this newspaper box everywhere in the town. you can get free daily toronto metro, renter magazines, jobfinder magazines, house, health news and many more. It's very convenience.

At Chinatown, you can find Asian flavor, spices, everything. It is just that if you buy chilli sauce here, it don't taste the same. Chilli sauce here taste more sour than hot& spicy.

Pre-Arrival, Arrival and Settling Down

Destination: Kuala Lumpur - Amsterdam - Toronto, Canada
Flight: KLM Royal dutch Airlines

We departed from KLIA at 2315, 13 July and arrived at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at 0535, 14th July, transit about 8 hours. Need to get back on plane at 1355 to Toronto. During transit, we just explore the airport. Later when we return, will explore the city. :D

First thing we do when we arrived was find a place to pray. Here, They provide Meditation Center for all religious. At first I thought all airport provide the meditation center. But then I met with a Sudanese who studying in US, he said,"Amsterdam Airport is the best airport in Europe that provide this facilities. not all airport have it." . Now I know, it's not all airport provide it. The meditation is nice and big too, complete with the Qiblat, Quran, Solat timetable, everything.

Next, after we've done subuh prayer, we walked around the airport searched for postcards and food to eat. Lastly we just eat Royal-O-Fish with hot Chocolate at McDonald. The best part is when we ordered plain water, it cost us €2.40. T______T

Even the ketchup you need to pay, I think the price rate for McDonald here is a lot cheaper than in Kuala Lumpur. Don't multiplying it, it will double double the price. Just look as a normal rate. 4 Fillet-O-Fish set + 1 Donut + 4 Hot chocolate will cost you like only RM31.65. Don't you think, it's cheap?

After that we walk around the airport. They have schiphol museum, history about KLM airline, how they started. The way they design the airport is like home friendly, you can sleep anywhere you want, they provide a mini library, shower, networking area, smoking room, you name it.

Now, it is time to complete our destination: toronto, from amsterdam to Toronto it took 6 hours. This is the plane that we board: Boeing 747-400.

Past few weeks, I've been busy with the induction course, Sambutan Maulidur Rasul at Yayasan Al-Jenderami and the launching of GO GREEN! campaign. Now, I need to focus about what I'm going to achieve in my life. I've been asked about it so many times, and I'm still thinking.

I'm asking myself..

me: Put aside the symbiosis program. What If I didn't get it,the symbiosis? What's your plan?working? further study?

Iman inside: I want to do Master. Most probably research cause I find it less tiring than taking course work. Plus, I can work. Other plan is, I want to travel around the world. That have been my dream ever since child.

me: How about your career?

Iman inside: How I'm going to decide? what am I good at? What I love to do so that I don't get bored while working? hmmm...need to do a paperwork about it. I'm still working on it. O ALLAH the most gracious and the most merciful. Please show me the best way to do it right for my career, my dreams, and the planning of my life.Amiin.

2nd day of Raya-I cherish every moment I have.

For the first time, Raya without my eldest and youngest sisters.
My eldest sister went to her in-law house while the youngest in Canada.

But still for me, it's the best Raya of the year because I don't have to think about my schoolwork anymore. No design. No submission date to rush on. I enjoyed it to the fullest. Plus my job right now is so carefree, nothing to stress on. Yippee!! ^____^V.

Besides, it's been a while that we get to join the family convoy. It was because of the restricted holiday in Singapore. They only have a day off for Raya. If first Raya is on weekdays, we can't get to join in the family convoy cause they will do it during weekends. By the time we are already back in KL. Moreover this past 3 years, there is time when I didn't go back during Raya because of my school projects.*cries*

Now that I've enjoyed it, I'm happy. ^______^

In addition to that, here some video of my beloved cousin, Adam, played the guitar on request from us(the girl cousins). He played 2 malay songs and 1 english song but I didn't know the title.lol.But Enjoy! *I wonder if he joins the Archustic audition.will he pass?XD* ~___^

My first kusessians reunion that I've ever been.

We have Iftar together at chop n steak restaurant at Seri Kembangan(near UPM). My friend made a reserve there. We gathered at UPM mosque.

It was my first time pray and break the fast at UPM mosque. They also provide food but differ from UKM mosque.In UKM, they will serve it in a tray and share it with 3 or 4 people. But in UPM, They will break the fast with light food and water first. Then, after maghrib prayer they will serve the food individually.

We went to the restaurant after maghrib prayer.

actually it was more to dorms reunion>> Siantan 3(Ufai, Dahi, Ayu, Erma, Ijok, syahirah and me), teratai 3(fatimah and dahiyah).

It had been about 7 years I have not met Syahirah, Ijok and Fatimah since I left the school end of my form 2. Their hilarious like always.I'm happy meeting all of them. ^_____^

This sunday, I also have another Iftar with my Kisas classmate.InsyaALLAH. Looking forward to meet them too. ~___^

It's been a week I don't post any entry.

I've been so busy this past few days because I'm ON VACATION.haha

but after the vacation, I need to settle down so many things>> claims, SPA registeration, RA approval, my graduate transcript, my graduate status..*sigh*

Everything cannot be settle until my result for topical study is out. right now my registration status: LEWAT MENDAFTAR. That means I cannot graduate yet.

So need to wait until 15th of July. till then, I need to wait and see.

Alhamdulillah.
I just came back from my grandparents house in Singapore.
It's a good family gathering on Sunday. All my uncle and aunts gathered at my grandparents house. i've got motivated a lot for what I should do next cause I'll be graduating soon.

For now, I think I am clear with what i'm going to do next.
Alhamdulillah, Allah had shown me the way. I"m not confused anymore.

Last friday, after school I went to UKM to get an office stamp for my thesis claim application. Suddenly, I saw my structure lecturer in the studio. He asked me what am I going to do after this? I simply said that I want to be RA(Research Assistant) but I don't know who yet. He offered me, if I want to be his RA. haha. I never thought of being RA to him.

For a few seconds, I thought that it is bad if it's about calculating the structure system. I am no good in that field. But then, he just asking me if I can do programming using Visual C. He caught my interest in no seconds. I love doing programming so much that I can't bear to not accepting the offer. Haha. He ask me when I can start. I just say, I can do it immediately. But he says I will need to wait until I get my transcript first or not I need to use my SPM results that means less paid. The office said that I can get the transcript by this week.

So I think it's a good opportunity that ALLAH gives me. After all, I remembered I prayed I want to work as a programmer someday. And this is it. Allah have granted my wish. Even it is not started yet. I'm getting so work up for it. It is not my real job, of course. It's just for me to have a peace of mind from design for a while. I will start my real work later after graduation. I probably hope that I can continue my master or part2 next year, InsyaALLAH.

today is the due date for UKM-symbiosis application.
needs to write a 300 words of essays, 3-min video and fill in the application form.
the vid is done. The essays needs to write another 100 words.

022 "..ACCIDENT +/- BBQ.."

Many things happened this last 3 days. Here is the summary of what happened last 3 days:

Friday, 19th June 2009:

Evening time, we went shopping for our BBQ nite at Pasar Borong Selangor, Sri Kembangan. Suddenly, we received a called said that 2 of our friends, yin and alyaa accident. Both of them were sent to Hospital Serdang. Alhamdulillah both of them were not in critical condition. Yin having scratches here and there all over her body,only physical injuries but no internal injuries. Alyaa left hand got dislocated and need an urgent operation for the injuries at her left hand(it's a hole about 5 cent coins, so scary) + 2 of her front teeth gone, need to plant a new one. Then, Alyaa was transfered to Hospital Ampang Puteri for further treatment.For more details and pic, go here

Saturday, 20th June 2009:

The BBQ nite still go on as plan. We held this BBQ near the Tasik Kejut. Menu for this BBQ event:

1) Grilled Chicken.
2) Sweet Potatoes.
3) Jagung Bakar kering.

6) Original Chacho's dipped with mayonnaise mix with Black pepper's. Yummy!

Evening time, visiting Alyaa at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital until late at night. The visitors>> K.Aida, K.Fara, Yin, Adian, Gedik, Che'Lan, Izuan, Casa, Uzair, Aizuddin and me (begitu ramaikan?siap berkelah dalam hospital lagi tu menikmati buah-buahan yang diberi oleh tetamu-tetamu yang hadir. dengan pesakit sekali turun katil duduk kat bawah.haha) . Then, went to NZ food court to have dinner + supper.haha..

Hope that Alyaa and Yin will recover soon. O' Allah, the Greatest of all, Please take a good care for both of them and make their recovery super fast. Amiin

Last saturday on 13th June 2009, I went to my friend's wedding, Amir bin Abd Razak. He is my classmate from Kisas. Congratulations, Amir!May Allah bless you and your wife always.

I arrived late. so, I just met a few people ex-kisasians 04' also called GEN-48:

My Homeroom teacher, Cikgu Marina can't came on that day cause she doesn't felt so well. She had a fever with stiff joints. It made her difficult to move. Thus, She send her regards to all who came on that day.

This year architecture workshop called RUMI. The climax of it was the performance night.

Whereas during the RUMI performance night, every universities need to perform of any show that relate to architecture. So for us, we do a shadow light action(I think. memyself not sure.haha), titled Pac-Rio. I act as a PacMAn. Actually not act, I'm just holding it.hahaha. :P

I like what Uehara-kun said. In my opinion, the harder we try to forget, the more we remember. But you will eventually forget it if we let it be...naturally. It's like you memorizing Al-quran but if you don't read it everyday you will forget. same applied here.just it is reverse. Sure it takes time to forget. But that's life and how human being is created. It's human nature to forget.

Human in arabic also call al-insan.
Al-insan = forgetful, pelupa.

But of course for who memorizing Al-quran(Hafiz or Hafizah) they have their pantang larang in order to remember. I just make it as anthology that people will forget if they don't maintain it.

Lately I'm too busy too update.

Next week I have architecture workshop at UiTM Shah Alam for a week starting 7-12 Jun 2009. Many competition need to get involve such as installation, multimedia presentation, performance for architecture nite, prhotography competition and many more. Every Uni needs to send 20 participants and 5 observer. I will be an observer.

so here a short brief of my schedule

9.30p.m till morning (6-7a.m): performance training + installation crit session + dance training.

7am-9.30pm : my own activities (thesis + surf net + sleep + eat + solat + jalan-jalan...)

will be on hiatus until the workshop is over!

Just now I got a called from my friend asked me If I can be a replacement teacher for primary 1 and 2 in her mom's school. Subject to be teach is Pendidikan Agama Islam(islamic education). The requirement is graduate from Islamic school for SPM.

I'm shocked.

It is not that I don't want to be.
just... am I qualified enough?
It's not an easy job to teach 7-8 years old kids. -__-

But after a few taught
Why not I just give it a try.
A phrase that I heard recently from my friend, "..the more you read the more you don't know.."
It can be applied here. In learning something, there will never an end till we died. Because Allah is great. He creates a sea of knowledge thats has no end to it. We as a servant needs to learn it.

and teaching is a learning process for me to enhance my knowledge too.
God's will. I have to keep the faith in me.

note: but this is not confirmed yet because I will only finish my study by end of June. She asked for early June. If that the case. It couldn't be help.

Internet connection for this past few days are not so good. especially at night. I don't know why suddenly they cut off the internet connection during night time. Furthermore there is no coverage for faculty wi-fi. T___T but it's ok, It is not the end of life. :p

14 May: submission and presentation. After submission, there are so many things that have been criticized by the lecturer. It needs to be changed and upgraded before the internal review this monday, 18 May. *baru jer teringat nak balik umah jap after submission and plan nak g career fair ngan abg weken ni tapi nampak gayanya tak bleyla.soryla abang eh.huhu.sigh*

15 May: release stress for a while after a few days just stay in the studio to do works, works, works and load of works. Thus need some peace of mind for a while. I went to Alamanda with my studiomate. eat big apple. eat nasi ayam. eat cendol. eat rojak pasembur. eat mexican bun. eat. eat. eat. It's all about eat. When we want to release stress we eat a lot without realising it.haha. *sebab tula makin sihat dan membesar :P*

what can we get from this internal review?
our marks can be upgraded or downgraded. It depends on how other lecturers think. For example if we get B from our studio lecturer. but other lecturers think, we deserve B+ by looking to our presentation board and drawings, we can be upgraded to B+ and vise versa. This is a crucial time where everybody struggle to upgrade their board.

Yesterday. I don't know what happen to me. I've come back from home with high spirit to do my design. But see what happen to me. It's all because of the ramp. My spirit have gone down to earth that nowhere can be found. ToT. I don't like this feeling. I need MOTIVATION to rise up my spirit. HELP ME!!! *syooh..syooh..setan g men jauh2!!*

no design schedule for today. because tomorrow is final exam with entrepreneurship subject.*entrepreneurship la sangat..haha.. poyo je..keusahawanan suda.dush!dush!*

so for today is benkyou in other word study.

what happen to design?

planning consider 60% done.
maybe later tonight will be doing it after finish study all the topics.

so for next few days. I'll be on hiatus because I want to get all my things done before the critics session.

003 "..clustering is no good.."

Yesterday target could not be achieved. why couldn't be achieved? There are because of 2 main reason :*muhasabah dirila kononnya nih*

1. too many cluster and not enough space to put in a cluster because of the shape have taken out a lot of spaces.*image shown is one of the cluster*

2. need to consider all the technical part such as M&E for every cluster, water supply, sewerage system, fire escape and telephone line. also 20% marks goes to sustainability of the building.passive and active design.*sigh*.. to many considerations need to be taken care of. *long sigh*...

So as today target onwards>> complete the layout planning by noon. ganbarimasu!!

0930: We went to Giant Hypermarket. borong makanan la aper lagi untuk stok di studio malam ni.*bekerja keras*

1200: Arrived Studio 5th year. setting my place and berlibur. hahaha.

1240 tilll current: detail up layout planning. sambil berlibur-libur bila rasa mengantuk

today's target:
>> completing the detail layout plan. Just then, I can move forward to my elevation and section.

Even though this blog have been made a long long time ago. But I rarely update in here.

So today I decide to start updating my blog during my leisure time.yes, i'm starting My Nikki a.k.a blog.YAY!! Therefore i will start this entry with no.1.so that I know how many entries I already make. this will motivate me to keep up on updating.LOL

how 2 make brownies???

Ingredients
250 gm butter
1 1/2 cup of sugar
4 eggs
2 tsps of vanilla essence
1/2 tsp of baking powder
1 cup of plain flour
3/4 cup of cocoa powder
1/2 cup of chopped nuts

Method
1) Melt butter over slow fire, turn off the fire and add sugar. Mix with whisk.
2) Add in the eggs and vanilla, continue whisking.
3) Add in flour together with baking powder and cocoa and mix well.
4) Add in nuts ( you can also add in chocolate chips into the batter or sprinkle sliced almonds on top of the batter before baking )
5) Pour into a lined tray ( 12" x10") and bake in a preheated oven for 25 - 30 minutes at 180degrees celcius.

BAHAN CREAM COKLAT...

250 gm cooking chocolate
1 sudu besar marjerin
1/2 cawan fresh cream/whipping cream

Cara-caranya
1. Cairkan cooking chocolate secara double-boil...
2. Angkat dari air panas tadi dan masukkan fresh cream/whipping cream dan marjerin...
3. Kacau sehingga sebati...
4. Tuangkan atas kek dan hiaslah mengikut citarasa sendiri...

kiter tak penah try resipi yg ni...tapi bahan2 dia sama jer..u try it....so gud lark..n all the best....!!!

If we prayed 5 Times every day, we would be giving ALLAH 4 months of your life. Can't we give 4 months out of 70 years?

Let's all give ALLAH a minimum of 4 month..every 1/3 of our lifes to learn da'wa & spread it,or at least 1/10 everyday.

LIFE is test. ISLAM is best.
SOLAT is compulsory.
AKHIRAT is for rest, WORLD is only dust.
If QURAN is in chest, nothing need next.
OBEY ALLAH first, success will be next.

Caramel vers FRESH MILK

INGREDIENTS

caramel

90 g (3 tbsp) granulated sugar (gula hangus)
2 tbsp water
1 tbsp hot water
a pinch of cream of tartar(kalo takder pun takper)-just ntuk colour lawa jer...

Custard

3 eggs
250 ml (1/2 pt) milk
60 g fine sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla essence

MEthod
prepare steamer and custard cups
1. prepare the steamer.
2. heat the heatproof custard cups in the steamer, after a while ,take out then wipe them dry.

prepare the caramel
1.heat all ingredients for the caramel in a thick saucepan except the hot water, until the caramel becomes golden. Add the hot water immediately to prevent the caramel from overbrowning.
2.tilt or shake the saucepan. Do not stir the caramel with a spoon.
3.pour equal amounts of hot caramel in2 the warm custard cups and turn the cups quickly round and round until the bottom of the cups ar evenly coated with caramel. leave aside to cool.

prepare the custard
1. mix egg n sugar, beat gently to mix it well.
2. Add in milk and vanilla essence. Mix well. (Do not make the custard mixture foamy)
3. strain the custard into caramelled custard cups and allow to stand for a while( for bubbbles, if any, to settle)

steaming the custard
1. cover the custard cups with greaseproof paper.
2. lower the fire n steam the custard for about half an hour or till the custard is firm and cooked.
